In the time of Armoured Warfare the term Hull Down means a position that an armoured fighting vehicle takes during the time of its participation in war. Hull Down states that the main body part of the body is hidden behind the raised ground or a crest. However the turret of the vehicle on which a weapon has been mounted is exposed, the reason for this strategy is that it allows the scout in the turret to observe the situation and fire upon the open ground ahead.

During the Hull Down strategy the hull of the vehicle is protected from the enemy behind hard cover. The alternative of the Hull Down strategy is the Turret down, in this position crew in the vehicle can see the path ahead from the hatch of the roof.
