What Is The Best Way To Help A Dog-aggressive Pooch?

My Shih Tzu was kept crated 18 hours a day by her former owner. She is great with people and with my other Tzu but will go after any dog we meet, even an Irish Wolfhound!!! I've tried doggie day care and letting her off-leash on neutral ground with other dogs in the neighborhood that she is likely to meet on walks but she still tries to attack. Is it the leash?

Try rolling up a newspaper and hit it against your hand or your thigh, they don't like the sound of it.

You have to teach him that if he behaves well in the company of fellow doggies, he gets a treat, if not he doesn't. After a while he will connect the two things together and resist mis-behaving.

      Well hopefully at least...

Ask your vet about dog socialization classes. I know they do this with puppies at some of the veterinary clinics. I do not know if it is feasible with an older dog, but i bet your vet could give some worthwhile advice.
