Cleckheaton is a town in the county of West Yorkshire in England. It is located to the south of the town of Bradford. Other neighbouring towns of Cleckheaton include Brighouse to the west and Batley to the east. It is located at the centre of the Spen Valley. Cleckheaton was an important town in the district of Spenborough, which enjoyed the status of an independent borough upto the year 1974. it is now a municipal borough. It belongs to the metropolitan borough of Kirklees in West Yorkshire.
The Reverend Patrick Bronte, the father of the Bronte sisters, was the vicar of Hartshead Church in the locality of Hightown, where he lived. The area features in the book Shirley by Charlotte Bronte. The largest Indian restaurant in the world, the now-defunct Aakash, was located in the town of Cleckheaton. It had a total seating capacity of about 860. It was set in an old English congregational chapel which dates back to 1859. The restaurant closed in the month of October 2006.
