    Initially a portion of the North Riding of Yorkshire, the town was made a section of the county borough of Teesside in the year 1968. Middlesbrough is quite diverse from other regions of Teesside, since it is completely urbanized; hence making it the biggest town in terms of population as well as area, but in fact is the smallest district.
