Can You Help With Basic Math For Apprenticeship Carpentry?

A carpenter wants to cut a 1/4 inch oak skin to adhere to the top of a cabinet. How much would he have to remove from the length and width of the oak skin to have it fit perfectly?
Size of cabinet top---4'-3 7/16 L 2' 6 5/8 W
oak skin to cut from 8x4
Can anyone show me how this would be configured and broken down to get the correct answer?

I can tell you the actual answer and how to calculate it if this helps.  Mark 4' 3- 7/16" on the 8ft side leaving 3' 8-9/16".
    Now mark along the 4 ft width side 2' 6-5/8", leaving 1' 5-3/8". Cut off 3'8-9/16" x 1' 5-3/8" less blade width.
