In your question, you do not state which country your grandfather settled in. Nevertheless, there are lots of websites containing information about Lithuanians who travelled overseas (although most of them relate to Lithuanians who settled in the United States),
A simple web search using the phrase 'genealogy + Lithuania' will direct you to most of these sites.
Some offer the ability for people researching their family history to post information about what they are doing and any information they have found, so this may help you to learn directly from others, as to how this can be best done.
Many Lithuanians who travelled abroad to live were Jewish and so there are some quite well documented sites which have specific records about Lithuanian Jews. So in the first instance it may be worth finding out your grandfathers religion (if you do not know this already) and then using websites to find others sharing his surname as well as trying to find birth and marriage records of people with the same surname.
