There is a cat in the zodiac, Leo is the lion, and that is the largest and most powerful of his kind. I am proud to be a Leo, have 4 cats too. I am a cat lover. Hope this helps.

Whether you like it or not, a tiger is a cat, but what I was talking about is Leo, "The Lion", which is the KING of cats, I am ruled by this animal in the zodiac, as all people are by their birth signs. If you read my answer, I never mentioned the tiger as an animal of the zodiac, just the lion. Have a good night.

The reason why the cat was left out is on the first book. The cat was tricked by the rat, the rat told the cat that the banquet was a day later. So they hade the banquet without him. The other reason which I think is the chinese story the cat and the rat was crossing the river and they both rode on the ox's back but the rat thought the cat was smart and pushed him in the water making him be the last one (13th) animal to arive which meant he was kicked out and couldn't join the zodiac. I thought the rat was the worst and I sort of hate everyone born in the year of the cat. I'm a dog but allways wanted to be the cat because he was left out. I love cat's I have 2 of them. I havn't read all of the fruits baskets but I really like Kyo he's awesome.

I think it's the first Fruits Basket which explains the story of why the cat was left out of the calender. - In my opinion it's a pretty plausable story (As far as myths go)

If you stop to think for just a moment, there are representations of the cat in all of the various forms of zodiac from all over the world. Chinese has the tiger, Egyptian has the cat and the lion, Native American has the lynx, South Americans have the jaguar, and so on. Cats were definitely NOT left out. The author of that book evidently didn't do their homework.
