We have a female cocker who for the most part is house trained,but sometimes when you pet her she pees. Is there any way to stop her from doing this?

This isn't a training issue, it's a submissive gesture, and unless it only happens when first greeting people, it's not an easy one to solve. If it only happens when she's excited to see people... The solution is to not formally greet when you first get home, or when someone comes in. It takes a little getting use to, because it goes against human greeting behavior... But were she in a pack... She would not be getting attention from the pack leader when they met. When a subordinate gets attention from a pack leader, it's generally for corrective purposes... So she expressing her inferior position... By peeing when she gets concentrated attention. If it's just when you come in.. Just enter as if the dog(s) weren't there.. No touch-no talk-no eye contact.. This will give her time to calm down and return to a normal level of energy before you calmly greet her... No excited.. "mommy's hoooome!!!"
If it happens at other times as well, it's the same issue, just at an even deeper level. The solution is to subtly change the way you deal with her.. And to actively work to build up her self confidence

But I would suggest you get a hold of a couple of the "Dog Whisperer" books by Cesar Millan (or spend an afternoon in Barnes and Nobel reading ; )... He will explain the psychology behind the behavior.. And give specific techniques to help build her confidence and get her past this.
