Golden Hamsters are the best for beginners. They are easy to tame and entertaining to look at. Only keep one though because they can be vicious to others its kind.

There's no specific breed that's best for beginners, all of them need the same care and attention. A decent sized cage, food, water and a ball to put it in for exercise and off you go. And as for whether you'd stick with it or not you actually don't have a choice in that once you have the hamster, its a living being and you are responsible for it's life. If you don't want the responsibility don't get a pet, simple as.

Well, what I did, was I went to a pet shop and looked at the hamsters periodically for months. Finally, one day, I was just dying to hold one, and then I decided that I fell in love and wanted to take it home with me.
If you get a dwarf, just know that they bite... A lot... And you will have to train it to not bite you if you want to play with it. I have 2 dwarves, one gray and one brown. They both have extremely different personalities and are both high maintenance in their own ways. Their personalities literally have not changed since they were 2 months old. One is cuddly, one loves to run around.

They can be work keeping the cage clean, but it is all worth it. My first pet was a teddy bear hamster cute brown and sweet. If you handle them enough you can encourage them to be more active during the day and me and my hamster played constantly. She liked to tunnel in my shirt. It is important to have a clean large cage, bedding, food, water, exercise ball and wheel, and chew toys because their teeth never stop growing and can get to long if they don't have something to chew on. This seems to be a pretty good care sheet 6dark6haven6.deviantart.com
