In the programme, Albert Trotter is the brother of Derrick and Rodney's Granddad, who died in the programme in 1984/5. In the episode "Strained Relations" it is Granddad's funeral. Uncle Albert attends with relatives Stan and Jean, and it soon becomes clear that Albert has been a bit of annoyance to whoever he stays with in the Trotter family. He is a proud Second World War hero and constantly tells stories about his travels in the navy. After he has a little too much Coniac at the wake held in Del and Rodney's council flat, Albert "conks out" in one of the bedrooms. When he awakes, it is half eleven at night. Del and Rodney initially think the sound of him flushing the toilet is that of an intruder. But after discovering who it is they let him stay the night and Del gives him a lift back to Stan and Jean's caravan. However, when they arrive, Albert and Del discover they have moved. After Albert tells stories of how other relatives have tried to get rid of him, Del says he cannot stay and gives him £100, telling him to go to the Seaman's mission. But Rodney persuades Del to allow Albert to stay with them. Their Uncle stays with them until his death in the early 2000s.
