Rap has affected America in the late 1970s and the 1980s the same way rock and roll affected the country in the 1960s. The music has its origin to rebellious attitudes of youth seeking variety from the existing disco genre of the seventies. Rap comprises music in an extremely lyrical expressive form. A techno pulse normally accompanies a rapper.

In the beginning years, there were more rap shows than records till it became viable in 1979. The music style attracted the middle class American blanks as these were organised as cheap shows and disco and pop music shows were just too expensive. With rap music, the kids could create their own music.
