How To Obtain Cdl License?
I am a 57 year old male, going through the 2nd stage of my life with a desire to drive trucks for a living; not so much as long haul. I have found out that to drive even a wrecker you need to have CDL's. I am looking for answers as far as courses that you have to take, testing procedures, etc.

Many ways-there are schools that will train you. Talk to any of the major freight carriers-Schneider is one that I believe has their own training program. Don't know how much it costs, but there is plenty of opportunity for a person to get a job driving. Good Luck!

You need to go to your DMV and get a book and read it really well, if you don't read it forget the test, I have these license and I know. You also need to know about the brakes and different kind of brakes on trucks, spring, wedge, air, etc. They will ask you to point out different parts of the truck on the walk around during the test. If you apply for hazmat, that's another test, as is a tanker, etc. Its fairly easy to pass if you study, that is the most important part. You will also need a truck in good working order to take the test in. It has to have all safety equipment in it like flairs, fuses, reg. And ins. All lights working. Check with your local DMV for more info but this is just an overview. Testing is different for class A-b licence. If you get licence to drive a bus over 15 passenger you need a licence for that too. Good Luck.

Look up Federal Motor Carrier Association on line. In brief, as long as there is only 1 DUI in your lifetime and not one in the last 3 years(some 5 years) when applying for trucking companies you probably could get someone to hire you.

You need to have training, from a truck driving school because you will be asked to drive. You do need to take your own truck. You also need to pass a medical exam in some states, much more detailed than a regular drivers license exam that only tests your vision, or else they may give you a restricted license.. Check out any states DVM website for more info. I don't know what state you are in, but I know CA is very strict.

What about the new laws on background checks.are there extra fees for this.what about your driving record? I've been told that if you have ever had a DUI on your driving record you cannot get a cdl license
