Does A Landlord Have To Change Out Carpet With Previous Tenant Own Pets And My Son And Myself Have Asthma And Are Allergic To Pets And Do Landlords Need To Let Tenants Know That Previous Tenant Committed Suicide In Apartment 2 Months Before We Moved In, In Chicago, IL?

When I moved into my apartment last month, my landlord said there were no pets in my apartment. After carpet was clean there was a strong oder of animal urine, (cat and dog). Myself and my 10 month year old son have really bad allergies and my son has to stay with relatives because he was always getting sick. Do the landlord have to change the carpet and should have it been changed before. Also the landlord failed to tell us that the previous tenant committed suicide in our bedroom. What are my rights as a tenant in this situation.

If the fact that there was suicide committed , would have had an effect on your decision to move in, then it is misrepresentation and you can end your lease contract with him . You can also complain that the carpet is not clean enough.
