How Do I Skim Board?

Skim boarding will evoke visuals of the sea, the beach, the sun and lots of well toned bodies. This is not far from the truth as skim boarding is best done in the sun with a sloping beach. The trick is to leap on to the board at the precise moment. As the waves recede from a sloping beach you can take off with board in your right hand. Chase the waves till you get a thin topping of water over the sand.

Now slide the board on the water and leap on the board in a smooth running action. If you take a heavy jump on the board you will not be able to maintain your center of gravity and fall off. Another possibility is that the board will not skim. It will get stuck in the sand. If you want to ride the waves then a slight curvature to the board is desirable for greater aerodynamics. Your physical fitness levels also need to be high because there will be a certain amount of g-force acting on the body as you try to skim the waves.
