A trash folder on the computer is generally on your desktop. It is also known as the Recycle Bin. It was introduced in the Windows 95.
If you have to delete any file it is automatically transferred to the recycle bin, from where you can restore it or can delete it permanently. The recycle bin icon generally tells you if there is anything in the bin or no. In case there are files in the recycle bin the icon shows certain objects and if the bin is completely empty the icon shows an empty bin. In case you don't want a file and want to completely delete it from the system the simple way is to press Shift+Delete. The file will directly be deleted and will not be found in the recycle bin.
