    Yes, Cahors is a town and canton in the western part of France. It is also a commune. It is located in the Lot department. The Lot department is the Midi-Pyrenees region of France. It is located at a longitude of one degree and 26 minutes east. Latitudinally, it is located 44 degrees and 27 minutes north. Cahors is also famous as the brand name of a popular brand of fine French wine which carries an AOC accreditation. AOC is the acronym for Appellation d'origine controlee, which is literally translated into English as a term of controlled origin.

    Cahors covers a total area of about 65 square kilometres. According to the 1999 population census figures, Cahors had a population of 23, 003.  Pope John XXII, whose given full name at birth was Jacques Dueze (which was alternatively spelt as d'Euse) was born in Cahors in the year 1249. His father was a shoemaker by profession.
