Was It Better To Live Ten Years Ago?
Was our living better then or now? I seem to like the way I was living, were times easier back in 1998? Or am I just not getting the picture?

Yes it was much more better than now, because cost of living was much lesser than now, better human relations were there now all of them are slowly diminishing.

Will have to admit life sure seemed a whole lot simpler ten years ago. Global warming fears, fuel shortages, terrorism, and what ever the next crisis to befall our society will be make me long for the way it was back then!

As a society, it was easier back then. We were living in a boom economy when we didn't have to worry a whole lot. I disagree with rocket's clumping global warming into a list of things we didn't have to worry about back then, though, as global warming was a concern even back in the 80s--though it was a lot harder then to convince people of that threat. Today, we have what is either a recession--or since it doesn't actually fit the definition of a recession--a severe financial crisis that may be long-standing with the mortgage, low value of the US dollar, gas prices putting a pinch on everyone, food prices going up, a larger number of banks failing, retail stores struggling to stay afloat and many not succeeding, people are cutting back on flying because of increased airfare and fees to check baggage, the list goes on.

Yes it was definitely a lot better than what it is now. Just to give you an example. In the country I live in we had a couple of things that happened in just the last two months. Keep in mind that salaries stay the same. Electricity is none existing and when you do have electricity then you have to pay for you and all the others that just receive it for nothing. Electricity went up by 65% just in this year alone. We pay rates and taxes and that has double this month. Our petrol price goes up every month, our food get more expensive. Politically things are also not good in our country. Two months ago at 12:00 at night 3 African men gassed us and our dogs and broke into our house while we were sleeping. Luckily we always sleep with our alarm on and although we were out for the count the alarm went of and the arm response, police and special squad was at our place in now time so the guys didn't steel anything and the biggest thing of all is that we are still alive, because here the criminals can do that they want but not the honest citizen. They kill you here for just looking skew at them. Explain this to me. Someone don't have a TV licence and gets fined 1000 but another person muder someone and gets out on bail for 500 so I said to someone that, that guy was dum. The guy that got fined the 1000 should have killed the officer. He won't sit in jail and he could have saved himself 500 because he would have been released for 500. We already had our second deaf thread from the guys that broke into our place. They've been in jail for 2 weeks and are out now and they said that they will be back to finish the job. So that is just a typical day in our wonderful new era in our country.
