In Troubleshooting What Is The Likely Problem When One's Laptop Screen Goes Out?

My laptop fell and when I powered it I noticed that my screen was black but the system started up fine. I checked for any visible crack on the screen and there was none. What could my problem be?

If it's a Dell mine had a switch right where the top locks onto the bottom, the switch at the bottom sticks. I just took a small screwdriver and made the switch come back up and it would work again. Finally went to ebay and found one like it a replaced it. If I remember correctly if came on the whole long panel. Hope this helps.

It is probably the screen. Sometimes the cracks are not visible, then again it may not have cracked but something else, like the LED or whatever type of emitter you may have could have cracked or become unset? I have a couple of LED's that kook fine, turn on but what you see isn't always what you need to see! You can check your video card and if you have another screen that you could hook-up to your system see if some diagnostics may help you out.

My suggestion would be that either your back light has gone, which would mean a new screen, or simply the connection has come out, which would be a simple fix. Take it to a computer repair shop.
