The Hare Krishna Mantra is a very simple one, using only the three words Hare, Krishna and Rama. The word Hare means unto mother Hara, Krishna means all attractive lord and the translation of Rama is source of enjoyment. The Maha Mantra means the great chant for deliverance.

The chant of the Maha Mantra is:

    Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna,
    Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare
    Hare Rama, Hare Rama
    Rama Rama, Hare Hare

Hare Krishna's believe that we are all born living spiritual souls, so by chanting the above mantra transcendental consciousness will be revived. This revival is called 'Krishna Consciousness'.
Chanting the Maha Mantra is an essential Hare Krishna practice and it is performed for up to two hours per day by devotees.

In the ancient language of Sanskrit mantra can be translated as 'mind freeing', so by practicing a mantra it is believed our minds can be rid of the stresses and anxieties of the world, giving way to the experience of spiritual happiness.
