Simply put customer satisfaction has to do with having one's needs met above and beyond his or her expectations. To retain a customer these days it is essential to focus on not just gratifying their needs or giving them what they paid for but actually going that extra mile required to build a long term relationship contributing towards both the organization's productivity goals and winning the customers hearts at the same time. It is getting harder to distinguish products and services from other similar offerings in the market place for most firms, and the only way that objective could be achieved erstwhile maintaining a healthy symbiotic relationship and ensuring perpetual growth/repeat purchases is to do beyond expectations.
