FM is better. Because of the way radio signal is modulated to go over the airways it is less susceptible to interference from atmospheric noise, or electrical noise from man made sources like motors, cb-radios, rf emissions from cars etc. Plus the modulation process is simpler than AM radios. If it were not limited by our Federal government FM radio could have a frequency response of 20 hz to 20,000 hz which is the range of human hearing.
