I have a 03 chevy malibu and I've tried this trick twice and both times it worked? How much time do I have before I absolutely have to get it fixed?

Any time. The motor armature in the pump is wearing out when you tap on it you are dislodging the armature from being stuck. It wont work long but it might last like this a month or so(sorry broke my crystal ball cannot give you an exact answer)

Hey Joe! I'm a new member here and I own a car repair shop. It sounds to me like your fuel sending unit is bad or a clogged fuel filter. Try those areas first good luck! Take care Henry

there's no real way to set a time it could fail any time proubly gfonna stop at the most inopportune time recommend repair soon coldrainy nights suck when it comes to walking
