Do I Have Any Legal Recourse Against A Cellular Service Provider When They Terminate My Plan Due To Late Payment?

AT&T cancelled my cellular service "due to nonpayment" as they put it. In doing this they nailed me with a $150 early termination penalty.

I suppose you dont have a legal recourse if you did not pay your bills. If they had disconnected your cellular services while you had paid your bills, you could have sued them. But now, you are at the losing end, as any cellular company can disconnect your service due to nonpayment issues.

You need to pay your bill, and the bad news is THEY can have legal recourse against you.

I would imagine that if you read your contract that was singed when you got the service, you would find that they are following the steps outlined in there. I would guess that the early termination fee is for the phone itself as most cellular companies offer a discount on phones as long as you keep service (in reality, they raise the service price and you actually pay them back for the phone + extra in the long run).

They might also hit you with additional charges if the $150 was just the early termination fee. Check the contract and verify.
