It could be that the motor in your car has a rev limiter. There is a rev limiter of certain rpms, surpassing which makes the motor stutter and eventually turn off. If the engine does not start, one has to look at 4 main things:
• Fuel(The usual air/fuel ratio should be about 14/1)
• Proper timing(the valves should open and close only in suitable time)
• Spark
• Cylinder compression (Normal compression is 120 - 170 psi. The engine does not start if the compression is lower than 70 - 80 psi.)
Also to start the engine properly, the starter and the circuit should be working fine. Usually most of the engine problems are related to spark or fuel. Start with simple things first: check if the fuel level is appropriate in the tank; check the oil in the engine and the battery. There can be other reasons like fuel pump failure which causes lack of fuel to either the carburettor or the injectors. It can be the problem with the ignition module and the sensor. It is advisable to seek professional help to get the issue rectified. You can refer to the manual of your car make or go to www.toyota.com for further technical assistance.

Your vehicle is a EFI vehicle. There can be two reasons wherein this type of situation can occur. One is your air mass sensor being defective or the occsolery air temperature sensor turning faulty. Secondly, there can be another problem wherein the engine temperature sensor may not be giving proper measured values to the ECU (Engine Control Unite).
