This can get really complicated and I strongly suggest that you advise your local CAB if you really need to sort this out; you can't get detailed and correct individual advice on Blurtit.

£2000 is the amount of bereavement payment, for all bereaved spouses under pension age.

People under pension age, childless and over age 45 can get a weekly Bereavement allowance (currently set at £84.25 a week, and it doesn't rise with inflation).

Widowed Parent's allowance is payable to bereaved people under state pension age with dependent children (read more).

State pensions can be inherited in only narrow circumstances. Does your wife have years of National Insurance contributions (has she been working most of her life?) If so, she will qualify for a state pension in her own right. Ideally she should have at least 30 years of NI contributions if she turns 60 before 2010 (how to find out how many years if NI contributions, and what pension forecast a person has).
