When Was Fulham Football Club Founded?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Fulham Football Club was founded in 1879 in London by worshippers in the nearby Church of England parish, located on Star Road. The team was originally called 'Fulham St Andrews Church Sunday School'.
It is the oldest football club in London, having turned professional in 1898, some 21 years after it's formation.
The team have played at their home ground of Craven Cottage since 1896. They turned down a move to Stamford Bridge in 1904, prompting the owners of Stamford Bridge to start a new team which would become Chelsea.
Despite Fulham's close proximity to Chelsea, whose ground is located on the Fulham Road, there is little local rivalry between the two sides, mainly because Fulham and Chelsea have historically not spent much time playing in the same division together. Fulham returned to the Premiership for the first time in 17 years in 2001. They have since beaten Chelsea by 1-0 when Luis Boa Morte scored the winner in May 2006.
