They spend at least fourteen hours and at most eighteen hours in sleeping and after that long duration of sleep when they get up they seem very active and curious about the things and always love to explore more and more. And because of this kind of nature they might even get injured and killed in certain situations. They are active and this is why they do not prefer to live in solitary areas but they enjoy company and so their activities are concerned. These animals are crepuscular and they can very easily adopt the routine of the people living around them.
They must not always be kept in the cages. And if you are keeping them in a cage then they must be given some time outside the cage so that they can feel free and move according to the way they like. Their walking ability is disturbed by keeping them for so long in cages and they might also suffer from some kind of depression and these are the big reasons that affect their activities adversely. They must not be left alone because they are too much courageous and they can even kill or injure themselves by going into holes and other dangerous places.
I've had a ferret for about 5 years and he thinks he's a dog! He follows us everywhere in the house, loves to steal socks, gets in the trash, loves the shower (yes it's off!) he just licks the water in there. You do have to be careful because they can get behind the washer and dryers, etc. Ferrets are like fuzzy 4-legged 2 year olds. If they can get to it they will! You should also make sure that when you give them a bath you use Ferret shampoo and conditioner - their skin tends to get dry, and check their ears cause they can get very dirty. If you feel uneasy checking their ears, take them to your vet.
