What Is The Difference Between An HT Processor And A Dual Core?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Dual core processor works like two Central Processing Units (CPU) with two separate and different cores of processors each with its own cache. It is as good as having two micro processors  installed on one single PC. The benefit of having two different processors or cores is because each individual core process the data independently at the same time. This feature of Dual Core Processors improves efficiency and produce desired results at much faster pace. The Operating System which is required to run the dual core processor must have the capability to recognize multi threading.

HT Processor tricks the operating system to treat it as two processors so as to allow multi threading. It performs this through duplicating certain portions of Processor without disturbing the main execution resources. The major benefit of  HT processor is improved efficiency and ability to perform multi threading at much quicker pace.

The major difference between the HT Processor and Dual Core Processor is the fact that Dual Core Processor have two different cores on the both sides of its die while HT Processor have only one.  Also Dual Core Processors are considered as more power efficient while HT Processors consume a lot of energy resources of the CPU.
