Is A Landlord Obligated To Provide Copies Of Receipts For Cleaning, Etc If Requested By The Tenant (because It Was Deducted Out Of The Security Deposit)?

We were charged for new trees, carpet cleaning, new thermostat, etc out of our security deposit and I want to make sure we were not over-charged. I want to see copies of the receipts and she refuses to show us. Is this legal/illegal?

Yes, you can ask for an itemized list of charges, deducted from your deposit, they must comply with that. What has me more concerned is the new trees? Thermostat? And etc... I can understand cleaning, carpet cleaning, minor repairs, maybe new carpet, if worn or damage, but not trees and a thermostat, that could be consider an upgrade or improvement to property value. You may think about small claims court if the deposit is large enough or simply forget about seeing it again.
