The term Limnivore or even Detrivore is given to those species which feed on animal and/or plant matter present mud or as detritus, typically from the river bed. Such limnivores, or mud-eaters (as they are often called), will consume vegetable materials, algae and other micro-organisms which are found within the substrate.

In the wild, they would also feed on small crustaceans, some shell fish in addition to worms. You will find such fish continuously probing for food, probably looking into the substrate, the different rocks, plants even roots trying to find food. They would typically have small stomachs with long intestines.

When feeding such fish your best option would be to trying tablet foods to try and feed these specialised fish.
