I've Heard That There Is A "Lucky Mushroom", Is This True?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Mushrooms have long been described as "the food of the gods" but although there are many species of mushroom and toadstool, tradition only considers the toadstool (commonly depicted in fairytale books) with a bright red top speckled with white dots to be the "lucky mushroom". The official name for this mushroom is the 'Amanita Muscaria' but it is also known as a 'fly mushroom'. Although it brings luck, it is also highly poisonous and widely believed to contain high levels of hallucinogenic properties. The hallucinogens were traditionally used in spiritual cultures to awaken your spiritual self and communicate with other dimensions and in ancient times mushrooms were deemed to be a mystical and holy food that only the rich could afford. This exclusivity of the mushrooms may have prompted the belief that you were lucky to have one in your possession and may be at the root of "lucky mushroom" belief.
