Answer Question

No, it's not their business, but you have to tell them and give them proper notice or it will cost you money.

You don't have to tell them why you are moving, but you do have to tell them when. If you are breaking your lease and are moving because of something they are responsible for (check your lease for this) then I definately would tell them. You might want to check with your state on lease laws also, because some states you have to give the landlord opportunity to fix a problem after you notify them in writing of a concern. If you are moving for personal reasons and are breaking your lease, it can be very expensive.

No you don't but they would like to know that way they can have the space re-rented and won't lose money, unless you are breaking your lease, then you have to tell the landlord and have good reason, ie job relocation to another area of the city/ State or even out of the country.......the best to you

You can tell your landlord that you are moving, because of personal reason if you choose not to tell him why.

Of course you should [if he is a nice person]. Make him aware of the reason for your leaving and in case your reason is one that can lead you to trouble, he might advice you on what to do. If your landlord is not nice, I suggest you keep your reason to yourself.
