Atticus is a rock band that was established in the year 1995, in Knoxville, in Tennessee. The band gained popularity for progressive work, complex harmonies as well as innovative cover art. They had a small but loyal fan base.

The band gets its name from Atticus Finch who was a well known character from the novel To Kill a Mockingbird, written by Harper Lee. The book was the winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in the year 1961. It started off as a grunge garage band that was formed by Aaron Sauers, Allen Clark and Donnie Shockley just before graduating junior high school.

Some of the more popular characters named Atticus include Archbishop Atticus of Constantinople (406–425) and the ancient Roman litterateur / philosopher, Titus Pomponius Atticus (110 BC/109 BC – 32 BC).
