Green tea is an herb, Camellia sinensis, of light green colour and not fermented, mostly found in China, Japan and some Asian region. Green tea is un-oxidized, dried tea and is believed to have many health benefits. Green tea contains four primary polyphenols collectively called catechins.

The polyphenols and antioxidants in green tea are known to fight viruses and are also believed to slow down the aging process. The antioxidant in green tea is Epigallocatechin gallate and is many times more effective than vitamin C and vitamin E at protecting cells and DNA from damages in connection with heart disease, cancer and other fatal diseases.

Health benefits of green tea include reducing of high blood pressure by repressing angiotension, lowering blood sugar by activation of polyphenols and polysaccharides and fighting cancer through catechins. Green tea is also known to reduce weight by raising body metabolism. Green tea reduces bad breath by impeding the growth of odour causing bacteria. Green tea is also believed to have antiseptic properties.
