A database management system is a system which is based on computer and it helps in managing a database. Managing means control over the resources and data available to the company. The primary function of the management database is the database definition, which provides a database system that can fulfill all of the needs of the data available to the company. The second function is the storage of data in the database which is also one of the primary functions of database. Third function is to retrieve or update data which is also known as retrieval of database management system. Another function of database management is the change in the contents of the database according to the needs which is also known as the updating database. System development is another important function of database management and it is also known as programming. Moreover, database integrity control and performance monitoring are also important functions of database management.
