Unless you are filing for Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 bankruptcy, I suspect that the exact details on this may come down to the finance agreement contract that you signed when you purchased the vehicle - your best bet will be to look through your agreement or contacting the dealer you purchased it from.
Have you considered trying to sell the vehicle in order to pay off the outstanding finance? Though, some (if not most) agreements in the UK (where I am) don't really allow this, and we have checks in place that mean you can't sell a car with outstanding finance on it.
