Birds are attracted to a garden which has an abundant variety of different plants and trees which not only provide shelter for the birds to perch but also give rise to an eco system one in which different types of insects the birds main food, can be found. Often bird feeders are not highly recommended by ornithologists as they result in birds becoming dependent on only one place as a source of food and which may also lead to flocks of birds descending on the garden often injuring themselves as well as damaging the garden; a water bowl is a much better option.
If one intends to feed the bird then one should try to diversify the items; one day one can put out bird seed or suet, the next day one could include a fruit or nuts and thus ensure that different species of birds are attracted to the garden. One should also ensure that toxic insecticides and pesticides are not used in the garden; another thing to watch out for is cats which can take a heavy toll of the birds landing in your garden
