Glaucoma is the name for a disorder caused in the eye. It is pronounced as glaw-KOH-muh. The main characteristic of this disease is that it causes an increase in the pressure inside the eyeball which in turn causes damage in the optic nerve and consequent loss of sight if it is left neglected without proper medical care. Glaucoma patients also often suffer from headache, nausea, redness in the eyes, eye pain, and bulging eyes. But it can be treated with the help of surgery and certain drugs prescribed by the eye specialist.

There are several types of eye diseases which are contained under the single term glaucoma. It is one of the leading causes of blindness and it becomes even more difficult because glaucoma is not easily diagnosed as there are no specific symptoms. Regular eye check ups is one of the most effective ways of diagnosing glaucoma and treating it before it causes a lot of irreparable damage.
