What Are The Health Benefits Of Using Nettle?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Nettle (Urtica dioica and Urtica urens) is rich in carotene, magnesium, potassium, calcium, and vitamins A and C.  Astringent and tonic with diuretic properties, nettle is useful in treating prostate and urinary disorders, and supports healthy kidney function.  Nettle has also been used to treat gastrointestinal difficulties, and supports the pancreas.

To use nettle for medicinal purposes, create a tea from the dried roots.  The pulverized root, cooked with sugar to make it palatable, is excellent for whooping cough and inflamed throats.

Additionally, the bruised leaves of nettle, applied as a poultice, helps heal burns, scabs, wounds, and neuralgic symptoms.  The juice of the fresh roots, applied to the scalp and massaged into the skin, removes dandruff and invigorates hair.
