Mercury is the closest planet to the Sun and as a result is a dry and barren place which has been scorched by solar heat. Parts of Mercury's surface exceed 450 degrees centigrade, when the planet is at its closest to the Sun. However, at night, the temperature drops by over 600 degrees and some scientists believe that this drop actually produces ice in the deep craters that have never seen the sun. Radar images of Mercury have revealed high areas of reflectivity near the planet's poles, which could mean that there is frozen water to be found there. The craters on the planet Mercury are all named after men and women who have contributed to the arts. There is the Beethoven crater, the Mozart crater and the Vivaldi crater to name but a few. If there was water on the planet, then there would be a possibility of life being created there. However, due to the heat from the sun during the day time, the creatures would have to be equipped to withstand very high temperatures.
