    The Jefferson memorial better known as the Thomas Jefferson Memorial is basically modelled after the Pantheon of Rome. It is America's leading monument to their third president. This monument was built in the intention to create Jefferson's gift as a statesman, designer, President, drafter of the Declaration of Independence, consultant of the Constitution and originator of the University of Virginia. This memorial commission was shaped in to direct the creation of a monument to Thomas Jefferson by an Act of Congress, which was permitted in June 1934.

    The Thomas Jefferson Memorial is very close to the south bank of the Tidal Basin, which lies very near downtown Washington DC.
