What Material Is Used To Make Waterproof Dresses?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

A duck constantly spreads oils it has secreted on its wings to make them water proof. It is the consistent addition of an oily coat to its feathers that keeps it afloat. Dresses can be made waterproof with combining them with other materials—by using a layer of non water absorbing material they can resist water.

Most fabrics are given a layer of wax, plastics, rubber, polyvinyl chloride (PVC), and polyurethane. Many companies have patented technology with relation to materials that they are using to infuse and make waterproof fabrics. Waterproof materials and dresses were usually employed in outdoor activities and occupations and have special relevance to military and crime fighting professions. Some manufacturers of waterproof materials are Dupont, eVent, Ultrex, Mountain Hardware, Lowe Alpine etc.
