    What Native Floridian Snakes Use A Rancid Smell As Defense?

    I saw a 4' long snake that was about 4 to 5 inches in diameter in my garage in Jacksonville, FL. When I tried to kill him he started expelling a terrible smell. He was very dark on top and his pupils were elliptical. He did appear to have large fangs that retract.

    suze, I'm a real "old time cowboy" I have been riding a horse in the woods in Florida working cattle most my life! My family started a town called Camp Bartow in 1817, and I have never heard that before!
    So I'm sorry I don't know!
