Answer Question

Born in Barrow, England in August nineteen forty seven, Emlyn Walter Hughes was signed for Liverpool in nineteen sixty seven by Bill Shankly.

In an Anfield career that spanned twelve years, Hughes played four hundred and seventy four league matches for Liverpool and scored thirty five league goals from his position as centre back.

Nicknamed the crazy horse due to his unique running style, Hughes was a firm fans favourite and went on to captain not only Liverpool but also England whom he represented sixty two times between nineteen seventy and nineteen eighty.

Hughes had the honour of being the first Liverpool captain to lift the European cup when the reds won the trophy for the first time in nineteen seventy seven.

When Hughes left Liverpool in nineteen seventy nine Highes had won every honour in the club game, including two European cups, four league titles and two UEFA cups.

Sadly, in November two thousand and four Highes died of cancer at the age of fifty seven.
