Most likely you will have to make him a ward of the State where you live, meaning he must surrender any personal assets and income to the State to pay for his care. You will have to check with the social services, or assisted living or whatever the departments name is where you live for the particulars. The children and possible harm they may be subjected to should be sufficient reason but you will have to maybe even seek out legal counsel for advice and direction.

I am bipolar and have found that mends and doctors have only made things worse for me. My siblings have it too and one of my sisters has Schizophrenic episodes and we have all generally agreed that the doctors and mends made things worse. I would just read up on it as much as you can and be as supportive, patient and understanding as you can.

My husband is in prison and I am going to file for divorce, because I have been through enough. I don't think he will ever change. I have been with him for 7 years. I have given support, love and courage, but nothing works. Its all about him. We have 2 little girls and we don't do anything or go anywhere. We have to sit in the house while he drinks and is abusive. I am not allowed to talk to anyone or do anything or go anywhere. He gets out of prison in 9 months.

You could go to Social Services.  They usually help quite a bit. Go to the doctor and get diagnosed, then you can apply for Social Security Disability for you and your kids.  You could talk to your pastor, or if you have a close friend. There are people out there that would love to help you.  I have found that out.
