Origami is a process which involves folding paper to create different designs. One sheet of paper is normally used, with no cuts. Different colours of paper can be used for origami and usually a sheet of square paper is used.

Origami is a Japanese word, 'ori' meaning 'fold', and 'kami' meaning 'paper'. Origami originated in Japan, and a number of books about origami have been written by Japanese authors. The books include step-by-step guides of how to do origami and different types of origami.

There are various techniques to origami, such as a mountain fold, valley fold, petal fold and so on. Some folding techinques are suitable for origami beginners, whereas other techniques are suitable for advanced people.

All different sizes of origami can be produced. People have often held competitions to see who can produce the smallest creation. Tiny paper bird cranes have often been produced.
