    Muhammed Atef is a former al-Qaeda leader who was born in 1944 in Menoufya, Egypt. His real birth name was Sobhi Abu Sitta. He accepted the name Muhammed Atef when he was accepted in the al-Qaeda with Osama Bin Laden.

    Muhammad Atef served for two years in the Egyptian army before he left to join the al-Qaeda forces and the jihad in Afghanistan. After being introduced to Osama Bin Laden, he soon became Osama's right hand man.  Muhammed Atef's daughter married one of Bin Laden's sons.

    In 1998, he was appointed as a military leader of the al-Qaeda. He was later held accountable for the 1998 attack of two US embassies in Africa and for the September 11, 1991 attacks on the World Trade Center in the United States.

    He was killed in an US air attack in Kabul in November 2001. While he was alive, there was a five million reward for his capture.
