It's very easy to solve this equation by factorization.
m2 - 9 = 17 ---------------------- (1)
We know that
(a+b)(a-b) = a2 - b2
(m+3)(m-3) = m2 - 32
(m+3)(m-3) = m2 - 9
(m+3)(m-3) = 17 (from equation 1)
m+3 = 17 or &n
bsp; m-3 = 17
m = 17 - 3 or &n
bsp; m = 17 + 3
m = 14 or &n
bsp; m = 20
