Can A Rental Company Report To The Credit Bureau A Higher Amount That What The Judge Granted?

We went to court with the landlord & settled with the judge to be out by a Jan 4th 2008 and pay the rental company $2500 dollars. Since then we have moved and checked our credit. The rental company reported that we owe them over 4000 dollars. Can they do this?

NO they can't do this! Report them to the BBB, and find a lawyer to help you with this. Hope this helps, good luck to you.

They are allowed to report was due them.  you must write a letter to the credit bureau  with supportive documentation from the judge and the bureau will clear up the issue for you;okay lovie?  ♥nassy

What you settled for, and what you owed them can be two different amounts.  They'll report the amount owed.

Yes they can just like any other business if you owe or owed them money and failed to pay it . They have a legal obligation to report it. However as long as thats the only bad report on your credit it will not damage it to much. But I would not make a habit of skiping payments if possible because it will catch up to you when you really need a bank loan in an emergency.
