The Cornish flag is a white cross on a black background and is the emblem of the Cornish people. It is the flag of Saint Piran who supposedly adopted the two colours from seeing white tin in the black coals and ashes during his discovery of tin.
One of the oldest images of the flag is at Westminister Abbey in a stained glass window that was unveiled in 1888. It was done im memory of Richard Trevithick, a famous Cornish inventor and engineer.
The flag is used as a symbol of distinctiveness in Cornwall and is seen flying at Cornish occasions and on car stickers.
